Glendale resident George Benavides has decided to seek the office of Arizona State House of Representatives, Legislature District 20.

Benavides said he would be a candidate that will “enhance the opportunities of employment, entrepreneurship for individuals who seek to have a business of their own, and an ‘eye of the tiger attitude’ when it comes to spending your tax dollars and monitoring revenue waste.”

In addition, Benavides said, “I will promote Arizona’s ‘Business Friendly’ attitude that will encourage business owners to look at Arizona as a friendly state to do business in.”

Benavides said his goals are to:

Promote Arizona as a “business friendly” state

Promote employment growth

Promote unity, respect and diversity

Promote educational opportunities in Arizona

Control wasteful government spending

Demand judicial reform

He and his family have lived in Glendale since 1986 and purchased their home in 1991. Benavides and his wife, Hildegard, have three grown children who graduated from Cactus and Ironwood high schools. All three have attended Arizona colleges and earned their college degrees.

“I am a businessman who has worked for and with local, county, state and federal leaders,” Benavides said. “I have worked for the Arizona Department of Revenue, the Maricopa County Assessor Office, Maricopa County Community Colleges District, Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), and the Arizona State Board of Equalization (SBOE).

“I performed services as an Adjunct Professor for Maricopa County Community Colleges District, teaching real estate courses at Phoenix College and Glendale Community College; as an appointee from Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to the Arizona State Board of Equalization, as a Hearing Officer on Property Valuations; and own G.H. Benavides Consultant Services and Good Homes Realty.”

His experience includes appointments from the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to the Maricopa County Board of Equalization (1993); Arizona State Board of Equalization (SBOE – 2001 – 2011); Served as a Hearing Officer to Maricopa County; Pima County; Pinal County; Yavapai County; Mohave County; and Navajo County; City of Glendale Housing Authority (Vice Chair – 2002); and (volunteer as the Chairperson – 2002) of the Glendale Sister Cities Program.

Benavides’ education is also diverse, from Texas and Arizona. He earned a real estate technology degree from Houston Community College/University of Houston; three years of “Studies Of Advanced Real Estate Subjects” (SOARS) from Texas A&M University, Texas Real Estate Research Center; Business Management Degree (BSBM) and an Organizational Management Degree (Master of Art in Organizational Management) from the University of Phoenix in Phoenix.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict in 1965-1966 and received and honorable discharge in 1969 as a decorated Vietnam veteran.

“I know that I can be a competent Arizona State Representative member who will bring future improvements to the State of Arizona and its residents,” Benavides said.
